PHILANTHROPY & INVOLVEMENT

Philanthropic Focus

Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus is Fighting Hunger. Food insecurity affects every race, age and community, including the communities where we are placed. That is why we want to be a part of the solution. Partnering with national and local organizations, we are able to make an impact on our communities. We are committed to contributing to the world’s work as our Purpose calls us to do. As a sisterhood, we work together to make a greater impact.

Our impact is enhanced through fundraising for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. They provide fighting hunger grants to various organizations that are doing their part in their local community to fight hunger. Campus Involvement

Hi there! My name is Olivia Holtz, and I’m the current Vice-President of Philanthropy for the Beta Phi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. I have been in this role for a little over a year and a half now, and I can say with absolute certainty that this has been one of my favorite parts of being a member. Philanthropy comes from the Ancient Greek word “philanthrōpía,” which means “love of humanity or humankind,” and in my time in this role, I can attest to the fact that it truly does mean exactly that. For Alpha Gamma Delta as a whole, our philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, and our philanthropic focus is fighting hunger and fundraising. All proceeds raised for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation goes towards providing scholarships, emergency funds to those in need, and different types of grants, among other things. Here at Beta Phi, our main philanthropy event is “Alpha Gam Bags Hunger” and it is a cornhole (or bags) tournament that we host every fall semester. Teams of two from different organizations and areas all around our campus are able to sign up and participate. In addition to the entry fee, we also sell apparel for the event, and all proceeds go towards the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. In addition to our main philanthropy event, we also table in our student union a few times a year and raise awareness about food insecurity and different hunger-based facts. We also sell small items, like rubber ducks that say “Duck Hunger” on them, and those proceeds also go towards the Foundation. One other aspect of philanthropy that is important to Alpha Gam is service and volunteering. By volunteering our time and energy, we are able to give back to the greater community around us, and that is rewarding all around in and of itself. Most often, we partner with a local food bank & child care center and assist in either organizing the shelves at the pantry or deep cleaning the different classrooms in the child care center. Just knowing that we are able to give back to our community in such a special way is something that I feel makes this sisterhood so special. Seeing all of my sisters come together and bond together during these events never fails to put the biggest smile on my face, and I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of them because they never fail to show up and put in their best work. If there is one thing that I could take with me from my time as the Vice President of Philanthropy, it would be the memories I’ve made with some of my closest friends while putting in the work to make our community a better place for those living in it. With love,Olivia Holtz, VPP
